The best beaches in Ibiza

Matteo Massoni

The Spanish island, capital of international nightlife, has always been considered a privileged destination for the wildest fun, with trendy clubs and discos, luxury yachts and magnificent sunsets to admire in the most popular places on the coast. However, Ibiza, one of the Balearic Islands, offers sea lovers numerous breathtaking beaches, not to be missed between one evening and another on the Spanish island.

Most of the most beautiful beaches are small coves, very crowded during the summer season. The advice to find a place is to arm yourself with courage and arrive before midday (that is, the time when those who have been out all night wake up). The alternative is to reach the beach in the late afternoon to admire the sunset.

In some of these coves you will find beach resorts and various services (the prices can be very high and it may be necessary to book in advance!).

Here are what, for me, are the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza.

Let’s start from Cala Comte, one of the most beautiful and favorite among tourists. We are located about a quarter of an hour from Sant’Antoni de Portmany, on the western coast of the island. This small 600-meter beach has an unmissable view of the surrounding islets and breathtaking colors. The sea is full of fish and snorkeling lovers can enjoy beautiful seabeds. The free parking lot is quite large and with a little patience you will be able to find a place for your car easily.

A few steps away you will find another little gem, Cala Escondida, with unique colors and a position sheltered from the wind.

Also a few kilometers from Sant’Antoni we find one of the most famous beaches on the island, Cala Salada. Always very crowded, Cala Salada is located in a small cove between the Mediterranean scrub and the sea. Waiting for the sunset on this beach is one of the most common practices for tourists on the island so arm yourself with patience to find a place! A few steps away, although inaccessible, you will also find Cala Saladeta, much quieter and less crowded.

For the party-goers, the beach to be on is definitely Playa d’en Bossa. We are located a few kilometers from the airport (here you can see the planes take off and land from very close!) near very successful discos and clubs such as Ushuaia. The advantage of this beach is its proximity to the city of Ibiza in addition to its extension which makes it one of the most suitable for families with children.

Another large “urban” beach is located in Sant’Eulalia del Rio. The beach of the town on the south-eastern coast of the island offers golden sand, an equipped marina a few meters away and a promenade full of restaurants, bars and shops.

Another iconic beach of Ibiza is Playa de Las Salinas. We are located in the protected area of Las Salinas in the south of the island. This beach is among the most popular among VIPs who come to Ibiza every summer. Turquoise water and white sand and over 1 km of shoreline make this beach one of the most loved in the place.

Other places not to be missed are Cala Bassa, surrounded by a large pine forest that opens onto a large cove with unique colors, Cala Llonga, a large cove a few kilometers from Sant’Eulalia, and Sa Caleta, a quieter beach surrounded by pine trees and rocks.

If you are lucky enough to have a boat or rent one, Ibiza is full of small coves and inlets that are difficult to reach on foot. The advice is to take an organized tour or rent a boat with a guide to enjoy the most beautiful places on the island!
