Grand Hotel Central – Barcelona

Matteo Massoni

In our tour of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed in, the Grand Hotel Central in Barcelona cannot be missing. Last June I spent a short weekend in the Catalan capital, already the destination of many trips in the past, to escape from the routine and savor the authentic and unique taste of the Spanish city. Among the many options that Barcelona offers, my choice fell on this 5-star hotel a few steps from the Cathedral, in the Gothic quarter. And I have not regretted it. Here is a short review to convince you to make the same choice when you decide to visit, or revisit, the mythical city of Gaudi.

Position

5/5

Located in Via Laietana, a few steps from the main attractions of the city, the hotel overlooks the old walls of Barcelona and its Cathedral, a snap of the fingers from the Ramblas, the Picasso museum, Plaça Reial etc. The center of Barcelona will be at your feet without the need for transportation. To reach more distant destinations, public transport is accessible near the hotel.

Rooms

5/5

The hotel offers various accommodation options according to your needs. All rooms offer large spaces, a modern and refined design and every type of comfort. It starts from the standard room with 20 m2 of surface, continuing for the executive in which the spaces expand, the superior with a view of the roofs of Barcelona and the surrounding streets. The deluxe room, in which I stayed, offers over 30 m2 of surface with panoramic views of the Gothic quarter, the cathedral and the city walls. For the most demanding, the hotel has junior suites, suites and a grand suite, with dedicated spaces, comforts and services of all kinds.

Common areas and services

5/5

The large hotel lobby and the common areas of the lobby are well structured and comfortable. At check-in you are greeted by the professional staff who make you feel at home with a glass of Cava. The top of the hotel is undoubtedly the infinity pool on the roof of the structure. Considered one of the most beautiful infinity pools in the world with an unmissable view over the roofs of Barcelona, it represents the real jewel of the hotel, which in itself justifies the stay in this structure. Also on the roof of the building, the Skybar, in the summer months, becomes a meeting point for trendy Catalan nightlife, thanks to the skillful skills of the barmen who prepare unique cocktails and the cool environment that distinguishes this rooftop bar (find out more in my article on my 10 favorite aperitif bars). The Hotel also has a restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine, the Bistro Helena as well as a SPA, the UNICO SPA, with a large catalog of treatments for your moments of relaxation.

The Grand Hotel Central is certainly among the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed at. Design, beauty, comfort and luxury for an exclusive stay in one of the most fascinating cities in the world. In my opinion, the best hotel in the city, ideal for a young, trendy and not satisfied clientele.
